Any plans to bring this to the Mac at some point?
And Linux of course!
I dont get it, whats up with all this cloud stuff??www.privacy-resources.at.tc
Sweet! Now I can use it with MS Office 2011 running on my... Mac... :(
YAY, nice :-)I've been waiting for this. How is the state for the real-time plugin?Suggestions:-I would like to have an advanced merge function, instead of just keeping this or that version of a conflict.-Include something like an "open cloud document" function for the plugin, where you can insert a shared link or even browse your docs repository and the plugin downloads and opens a doc automatically.Much better than manually downloading a doc and open it with MS office.-When synchronizing, please let us set the docs-labels.-Make it possible to convert already existing MS Office-documents in my Docs repository. Currently, if I download an old docx-file, a initial synchronization will lead in a new docs-object.-a version for open officeThx!
OPEN OFFICE, please
AND Microsoft Office Starter!Thanks
For those interested in integrating MS Office with both Google Docs and Google Sites you can install OffiSync.com for free.
"... to all"???????Please edit this to "... to Windows users"Thanks
Dont do open office, don't do mac, don't do linux.this plugin target audience are corporation. They all are running MS Office on XP.of course you know this. But this is for the other readers
Doesn't work for me. Windows 7 with Office 2010 Home and Student installed.
Is there really no way to hide the toolbar? It's taking up an unnecessary amount of screen real estate on my 11.5" ... great work, though!
Any chances this functionality would appear for libreoffice at any time?

Shan-Great news. Also...as a marketing technologist myself, I would love to know the program you used to do the video animations, etc. The quality of the video is exceptional.C.J.
I would love this for LibreOffice! After all, Google's a supporter of the project, as well as open standards in general.
There is a serious limitation to Google Cloud Connect that, even after beta, still makes it only a proof of concept and not infinitely usable. I host my domain on Google Apps for Business, but use the desktop version of Microsoft Office, as Google Docs is simply inadequate in comparison in serving complex business documentation needs. For those on the fence, here's an unbiased, must read hands-on of Google Cloud Connect it points out its positives, but highlights the incomprehensible shortcoming in Google Docs editing of uploaded docs created offline in MS Office. There is a major disadvantage for those of you seeking to retain formatting integrity in Microsoft formatted files but want to be able to upload them and edit them anytime, anywhere in Google Docs (http://www.itwriting.com/blog/3939-hands-on-with-google-cloud-connect-microsoft-docs-in-googles-cloud.html):"... Google stores your document in its original Microsoft format, not as a Google document. If you go to Google Docs in a web browser, they are marked by Microsoft Office icons. If you click on them in Google Docs online, they appear in a read-only viewer. That said, in the case of Word and Excel documents the online viewer has an option to Edit Online. This is where it gets messy. If you choose Edit online, Google docs converts your Office document to a Google doc, which possible loss of formatting. Worse still, if you make changes these are not synched back to Microsoft Office because you are actually working on a second copy. Note that I now have two versions of the same Excel document, distinguished only by the icon and that the title has been forced to lower case. One is a Google spreadsheet, the other an Excel spreadsheet.Google says this is like SharePoint, but better (http://googleenterprise.blogspot.com/2011/02/teach-your-old-docs-new-tricks-with.html): "Google Cloud Connect vastly improves Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 and 2010, so companies can start using web-enabled teamwork tools without upgrading Microsoft Office or implementing SharePoint 2010."... Like Google, Microsoft has a free offering, SkyDrive, which also lets you upload and share Office documents.Microsoft’s Office Web Apps have an advantage over Cloud Connect, in that they allow in-browser editing without conversion to a different format, though the editing features on offer are very limited compared with what you can do in the desktop applications."Like the consistency across devices based on its own Android OS, Google is fragmenting the experience for the end-user once again. It's getting old really fast. Good luck to you all
After running the installer, I get:"Download error. The downloaded file failed verification. Error code = 0x90040204"
Love the concept, any reason to abandon Microsoft Sharerpoint is a good enough one for me! On a more critical level however, the overall look of the add-in isn't great; however I appreciate this may not be possible within a closed environment such as Office. Good work!
Windows 7 64bit with Office 2010. Get a prompt that says "Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office requires Office 2003, Office 2007, or Office 2010." I assume this is because it is 64bit rather than 32bit?
Is there a viable possibility to see this product with Open Office?
please add support for microsoft publisher
There is huge demand from my clients all using Mac's to use this solution. Any word as when Mac support will be available?
My issue was due to the "Click to Run" install of the Office Suite. http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1110331&topic=30338
@jessos Information on availability for Macs has been added to the blogpost.
great idea to make syncing documents with the cloud. When it comes out of beta please don't keep it in a toolbar but maybe another option added to the Office button and/or an icon to add to the 'quick access toolbar'
Does not work with 2010 starter? :(
How do you ensure that the file structure also remains the same? It seems you have to build out a file structure on your desktop as well on on Google Docs.
@Vankog - you should look at Syncdocs (http:\\www.syncdocs.com) It does all the advanced features you want like advanced merge, open office support, folders, and mass repository migration. You can also set it up as you g-drive for backups and sharing. We've been using it for about a month without hassles. The Windows version is great, but the Mac is hard to setup.
what about office xp
Nice one! BUT please, can we HIDE TOOLBAR?
This Google Cloud Connect isn't ready yet, in my opinion.I've been having good luck with OfficeSync from www.offisync.com as it uses a ribbon instead of the intrusive toolbar, supports multiple accounts, can open documents directly from your Google Docs folder, and also syncs when you save. It also offers a paid version with real-time co-authoring support.
I've downloaded it, run the exe file but nothing is happening......what am I doing wrong? Running XP with Office 2003
the toolbar is a bit large and intrusive. it would be excellent if it fit in the office ribbon as a tab. or at the very least, reduce the font and size of any graphics please.
Anyone using Joukuu.com, it provides a simple desktop app to manage your Google Docs files on your desktop! Current version is FREE.
First of all, this is not available for "ALL" -- just for those who are using a certain version of MS Office on the Windows platform.Google, this is so not you....why are you targeting Windows and MS Office anyway??I would rather you spend your programmer's efforts on offline Google Docs! Then we tell people to uninstall MS OFfice.
Don't like the toolbar. Would rather have the plugin show up in the "Add-Ins" tab, this gives it better integration with the ribbon, and it's non-intrusive. This gives the user more real estate and easy access to the plugin by switching over to the add-ins tab.
Can't wait to try. Will see if this works better than offisync. I'm hopeful for a Mac option at some point, whenever those APIs become available.
I'm finding that it works great, especially as an automatic back-up for long documents. But I'll second those who are complaining about the size of the toolbar. It's much too intrusive. I'll be thinking much nicer thoughts about Google if I can just add a button to a ribbon.Deanwww.authorof.com
@ Rob:Thx for the suggestion for Syncdocs.Amazing piece of software. I am currently trying it out.Regarding OffiSync:Its nice, but the free version is too limited in my eyes. I even cannot keep the MS Docs Format with the free version.
How do I uninstall Google Clould Connect? I tried it and I don't like it.
@c:just like you unsinstall every software on windows; via "Programs and Features" at the Control Panel (or similar at other win versions)
LibreOffice et OpenOffice version please :)
Why no office 2010 starter?!
I'm with Vankog on this one. Actually, the product feature matrix is simply not clear to the end-user/ And as the targeted end-user seems to be corporate, this is a serious issue.
Please, please, please make this work with Office 2011!!! Our company is about 2/3 Mac's and 1/3 PC's (we use whatever we want). We are scattered across the country and frequently traveling. Google Cloud Connect would be awesome for us!
Brilliant thing! The only objection I have is against the size of the panel... Toolbars in Office 2007 are big themselves, adding another quite big panel makes the situation even worse. I know that I can hide office toolbars but I work with them, I need them opened and not always clicking on them when I need something.I cannot use the google sync on my laptop screen until a new way of how to present the sync will be invented. Please do something about that! Thanks a lot!
Please. Hide option or maybe creat Google cloud connect tab
UGH! Let me hide the toolbar! ...or make it a tab.. or ANYTHING but the current implementation!(I love the concept though!)
useless without the option to hide. i already deinstalled it.
Infelizmente não está funcionando perfeitamente. As fórmulas do Excel não estão funcionando com esse plugin instalado.
get rid of that toolbar already
This has a lot of great posibilities for school systems. Very awesome but are there bandwith concerns?
Disappointing to say the least. I was excited to read about this latest Google venture, but its implementation leaves a lot to be desired.
Perfect apps ! But when for libreoffice ?
Nice plug in, but i hate that toolbar look, it is terribly ugly!
Nice. Uninstalling though until "hide toolbar" option is available.
It's not compatible with Endnote X3. To use it, I have to upgrade the old one to Endnote X4. Like its function, but don't like the toolbar style at all.
Great addition, ugly bar. Can we move it to a tab, or auto-hide it, or at least make it smaller please?
hide toolbar +1. obvious and glaring omission.
Thanx for this service. Great!
Musa GocmenogluThanx for the service. Great!
I used use OffiSync to do that and once I knew this notice, I uninstalled OffiSync and installed Cloud Connect imagining the behavior was the same. But I really dislike the approach used by Cloud Connect cause I really like Google Docs interface and don't want to save the file online and open it as pdf in gdocs instead of their original format.I uninstalled Cloud Connect and installed OffiSyn again, but now I can't connect OffiSync to gdocs, since I have received an error saying Google Docs is unavaliable to upload files in OffiSync. Is this a consequence of my installation of Cloud Connect?
Please can you make the toolbar hideable or even better make it into a tab in Office. At least make the toolbar half its current height.
J.bundy's comments are extremely relevant as you start to really use it. But, for me, the killer is the giant toolbar you can't hide.
waiting for this to run on the Mac platform... hurry it up googlers.
I like the concept, however please allow option to hide the toolbar.
hide option +1
+another 1 for hiding, moving, or making the toolbar smaller.
What about Outlook :-(
You really should offer this as a stand-alone sync application, just like dropbox. Not only would this then work on the Mac and Linux, too, but it would save time firing up Microsoft word to update all my documents as everything would be synced at startup.
"All" doesn't include Mac users.
So Office Mac wont work, what about some kind of Pages/iWork plugin or a generic app that will sync apps to google docs in a special folder.
Agilewords offers a similar solution that works both on PC/Mac and preserves the original Word document formatting at all time. The online editing capabilities are limited. However they provide online change tracking and advanced collaborative review features. Check it out at www.agilewords.com
Market Probe (www.marketprobe.com)is launching a major study on tech advocacy and loyalty. We will be covering cloud computing usage, loyalty and advocacy among major suppliers including Google. Preliminary analysis shows that cloud computing is used or being tested by 19.2% of establishments between 100 and 1000 employees and 17.8% over 1000 employees. Higher than we expected going into the study.
Is there a way to hide the Google connect toolbar? It bothers me that it is always way even when I'm not using the feature.
"Available to all?" With no Mac support? What are we? Chopped liver? :)
It's a cool feature, but I get a problem which Jbrandy already said. I tried to share with another user from G cloud office connect. Then I edited with another user. Ironically, it just copied and created a new google format instead of overwriting the older file and highlighting the changes. Because it copied and created the new one, it didn't sync back to Microsoft Office. Therefore, the first user couldn't see what the other user did without going to google docs online. Has anyone of you experienced this and found the fix? Please suggest. thanks.
Had to uninstall Google Cloud Connect because couldn't find any other way to hide it when I wasn't using it.
According to Gartner in 2007 Apple owned 5% of U.S. desktop market share and in 2010 they doubled this to around 10%.http://thegadgets.net/technology-news/apple-mac-grabs-10-percent-of-the-us-desktop-computers-share/orhttp://tinyurl.com/4rut7upThis may just be the beginning of a long trend for Apple as they seem to be on a steamroll. Google had better start addressing the Mac market much more promptly in future if they want to see Google Docs gain market share. At one time Apple owned over 35% desktop market share and they may well be on their way to reclaiming much of this in next few years.
I really don't understand: Google has banned Windows from their pc, they using only MacOs or linux, but they still continue to write applications for Windows first!
The way I see it, Connect Cloud syncs my files to the root file of my Google Docs. Could I direct it to a specific folder?
Oops - I thought I could create folders within my Google Docs, but I don't see it. Am I hallucinating?
Nice. Uninstalling though until "hide toolbar" option is available. Hide +1
pls, linux version :)
I think users should be allowed to choose which files they want to be included. I know there's the manual mode, but perhaps some may want the auto mode but not on all documents.I'm still undecided if I'd like to carry on with it or not...
Drop the MS Office integration and make a Dropbox-like client for Google Docs. Problem solved :)
All? Not for me dude. I use Linux and Libre Office. "/
I would love to see it just a button or something. The toolbar is to big and takes up to much room to use. I am thinking about uninstalling it because its to ugly and large.
@jBundy.comI generally agree with you and Office Web Apps is an easier solution only so long as you have Office 2010 installed. MSFT screwed this up by not giving integrated Skydrive support as a plug in for Office 2003 and Office 2007.Since none of us at work have Office 2010, we will be using Cloud Connect for the time being.
So this is not really a sharing/collaborating thing but a storing thing? You can't edit office files *from* Google Docs? That's a pretty significant limitation that would be dishonest for Google not to highlight. Is there a program that lets one edit desktop items through google docs?
Sheer genius. Using microsoft's strength to google's own advantage.Pure genius.
Please, please, please can we have the plugin for Office 2011 on the Mac also. We have a mixture of Windows and Mac users all with MS Office.
Does anyone know if you can find other businesses who are using Google Cloud. I feel that this will be a distinct advantage in winning business and maintaining fantastic customer service as it will enable better communication, via the chat function, between both companies.I would really like to be able to find out which other businesses are using the cloud...any ideas much appreciated.Kind Regards,Alicia.
Too bad it crashes Word 2010 when you try to enable the add-in.
Toolbar takes way too much screen real estate. Perhaps move it into a Ribbon Tab or the Addons Tab.
OPEN OFFICE / LIBRE OFFICE PLEASEOPEN OFFICE / LIBRE OFFICE PLEASEOPEN OFFICE / LIBRE OFFICE PLEASE
yes Microsoft starter too!!!
Hi,I am using this awesome plugin on my XP 32-bit, but recently i don't know how it doen't seem to work in MS word 07, but the plugin is working on other MS apps. I mean by not working as there is no display of 'google cloud connect' on the top.any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
If I e-mail an Office document to myself, the link "open in Google docs" will open the file in Google docs, editable and beautifully formatted. If I upload the file using Cloud Connect, it will only upload a non-editable file.If I upload the same file with OffiSync, I also have an editable file in Google Docs. What is the problem with Cloud Connect? Thanks
Some people have already asked it, but is it possible to have a tab in Office 2007/2010 instead of a toolbar? Is that improvement planned by your team, or not at all? Thank you very much :)
it lacks only a detail to be perfect, on the menu file - open, put an option to see my gDocs file, so will be perfect
